probably one of the must stunning and breathtaking places in the Pamirs. But the conditions are raugh and the people have also a hard life here. In the winter there are snow storms and temperature can drop to -40°C, in Bulunkul even to -60°C. Fresh fruits can be a nice gift and please respect the prices of the homestays! Everything has to be carried from far away so basic products become quite expensive for the people here.
Prepare: A good western shower does not make any sense here due to shortage of water. Therefore there are russian Banias which are also much more sustainable. So enjoy your last shower in the Wakhan or in Kyrgyzstan and wash your clothes also maybe before. You won't find washing machines and washing clothes on an altitude of 4000m can be somehow hard. Bring warm clothes with you, even in the summer in gets quite chilly at night.
